Den of the Root Eater is a tabletop RPG scenario I have been designing for the past couple of months. I have been leading the project's art direction, working with a few other artists to capture a poppy and gritty style. I have also been responsible for writing and designing the scenario and its many gruesome creatures. The scenario is currently being developed for 4-6 hours of play, though I have plans for continuations of the adventure after this one is finished.
Everything you see here is a work in progress! Many things may change when the final product is released.
The scenario comes with six premade characters for players to choose from, as well as a seventh that may be encountered later in the adventure, in case someone meets their bloody end. Each character comes with their own art, backstories, and abilities.
Character sheets were created in collaboration, with illustrations by Celestial Fang and me, and graphic design by Jesse Wayne Talbot.
The fearsome Root Eater is one of the creatures players will face in this adventure. Nidhogg, guardian of the world tree, has been captured and mutated by strange, dark forces. Players must find a way to free Nidhogg from the grasp of the cruel foe, or put down the ancient beast and spare it from a life of misery.
The creatures of this adventure will be using an altered combat system to capture the cinematic fights of Souls-like games. Players will be rewarded for learning enemy movesets, as each turn, enemies may pull from a diverse set of attacks. I don't want to give too much away about the mechanics, so if it sounds cool, stay tuned!
